Privacy policy

Last updated 9 August 2026 · Written for the Australian Privacy Act 1988

Plain English, because a privacy policy you can’t read isn’t much of a policy. This covers what we collect, why, who we share it with, and how to get it deleted.

What we collect

  • Votes — when you tap “Worked / Didn’t work”, we record the vote, a timestamp, and a salted hash of your IP address and browser type. We never store those raw. The hash is there for one job — stopping the same device voting twice on the same code — and we can’t work backwards from it to you. No account needed, and we don’t attach your name to it.
  • Code copies — when you copy a code, your browser quietly pings us so we know which codes people actually use (that’s what “trending” is built from). We store which code, the time, the page you copied it from, and the same salted hash.
  • Outbound clicks — every link out to a retailer goes through our own redirect, and we log the store, the code you were on, where we sent you, the time, the page you came from, and the same salted hash. No name, no email, nothing that names you.
  • Submissions — codes and referral offers you submit, plus the first name you optionally attach.
  • Optional email — only if you ask us to notify you about a store or event. We use it for that and nothing else.
  • Contact messages — what you send us via the contact form, and your email if you leave one so we can reply.
  • Analytics — standard, aggregated usage data (pages viewed, rough location, device type) via Google Analytics, so we can see what’s useful. We don’t build advertising profiles of you.

Why we collect it

To run the verification system (votes and submissions), to see which codes are actually being used (copies), to get the commissions that fund the site attributed to us (outbound clicks), to send the alerts you asked for (email), to reply to you (contact), and to improve the site (analytics). That’s the complete list of purposes.

Who we share it with

  • Analytics providers — Google Analytics, to process aggregated usage data on our behalf.
  • Affiliate networks — when you click an affiliate link, the network records the referral so any commission is attributed. We don’t hand them your email or votes.
  • We never sell your personal information. Some providers may store data overseas; we only use ones with appropriate safeguards.

Your rights & deleting your data

Under the Australian Privacy Act you can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email support@getpromocodes.com.au or use the contact form and we’ll action it, usually within a few business days. Unsubscribing from emails is one click from any email we send.

Complaints

If you think we’ve mishandled your data, tell us first and we’ll try to make it right. If you’re not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
